Most resolutions are gone by February
Vague goals
“Get fit” and “save more” sound great on January 1st, but you can’t tell if you’re doing them.
Out of sight, out of mind
The list goes in a drawer, and by March you’ve forgotten half of it.
Finding out too late
By the time you realize you’re behind, it’s November and there’s no time left.
Set it up once. Check in once a month.
Write your goals
Make each one a number: a start, a target and a date. Add a line on why it matters.
Check in monthly
At the end of each month, type where you are. It takes two minutes.
See where you stand
Done!, On track or Behind for every goal, what you need each month, and a chart against your plan.
Every goal becomes a number
Start, target, unit and date, plus why it matters. The planner works out your progress, how far you should be by now, what’s left and what you need each month to finish on time.
- Up to 12 goals across 8 life areas
- Works for goals that go down too, like paying off a card
- Needed per month to still hit your date
| Goal | Target | Now | Left to go | Per month | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Run 500 miles | 500 miles | 375 | 125 | 41.7 | On track |

| Pay off the card | $0 | $350 | $350 | $350 | On track |

Two minutes at the end of each month
Type where you are for each goal: miles run, dollars saved, books read. Every status updates straight away, and the Reflection tab gives you a place to score your month and plan the next one.
- One row per goal, one column per month
- Done!, On track or Behind
- Monthly reflection: win, obstacle, next focus

Hi, I’m Lee
I run Sheet Leveller on YouTube, where I make quick, no-nonsense Excel tutorials.
This planner uses the progress and IF formulas from my tutorials, so every goal’s status works itself out.
Questions
What kind of goals can I track?
Anything you can count: miles, dollars, books, lessons, date nights, rooms decluttered. Goals that go down, like a card balance, work too.
What if I fall behind?
That’s the point: you find out early. Needed per month tells you exactly what it takes to catch up.
Can I use it for 2028?
Yes. Change the year on the Settings tab and clear the check-ins.
Can I track daily habits?
This is for yearly goals. For daily habits, see the Habit Tracker.
Does it use macros?
No. It’s a normal .xlsx file, so there are no security warnings and nothing to enable.
Which versions of Excel does it work with?
Microsoft 365, Excel 2010 or later on Windows, and Excel for Mac. It’s built for Microsoft Excel.
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay once and the file is yours to keep.
This year, know you’re on track.
Up to 12 goals, monthly check-ins and a dashboard, all in one file.
