Grading shouldn’t take longer than teaching

🧮

Weighted grades by hand

Tests 40%, homework 20%… working it out for 30 students takes hours.

📭

Missing work slips through

It’s easy to miss that a student hasn’t handed in three assignments.

😟

Spotting who’s struggling

By the time report cards come round, it’s too late to help.

How it works

Set it up once. Type scores as you go.

  1. Set your weights

Your categories, like homework, quizzes, tests and projects, and what each is worth.

  2. Add assignments

The name, category, due date and points. Each becomes a column in the gradebook.

  3. Type the scores

Weighted grades, letter grades and missing work are worked out for every student.

Weighted categories

Weights done for you

Set up to 6 categories and their weights. Each student’s category averages and weighted overall grade are worked out from the assignments that have been graded, and turned into a letter grade on your scale.

  • Up to 6 categories
  • A check that the weights add up to 100%
  • Your own grade scale

Missing work

See missing work at a glance

Anything past its due date without a score turns pink, and each student’s missing count is added up. Type EX to excuse an assignment and it doesn’t count at all.

  • Missing work turns pink
  • Excused assignments (EX)
  • Low scores in red

Questions

How are weights worked out?

Each category’s average is its total points scored divided by total points possible. The overall grade weights those averages, counting only categories with something graded.

Can I use points instead of weights?

Yes. Put everything in one category at 100% and it becomes a total-points gradebook.

What about more than 40 students?

Use one copy per class. Most teachers keep one file per class and period.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

It’s built for Excel. It opens in Google Sheets, but some colours and features may not work the same.

Does it use macros?

No. It’s a normal .xlsx file, so there are no security warnings and nothing to enable.

Which versions of Excel does it work with?

Microsoft 365, Excel 2010 or later on Windows, and Excel for Mac. It’s built for Microsoft Excel.

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay once and the file is yours to keep.

Spend less time on grades.

Weighted grades, missing work and who needs support, all worked out for you.
